The Sun Never Came

I was asleep

Yet not the peaceful sleep of the child

Heart of panic

Images of horror

Horror beyond horror,

Within the nightmare,

Consumed.

I lay in waiting,

Waiting for the sun to peer through my window.

Waiting for the sun,

The keeper of love.

Waiting for the sun to kiss my tears

Waiting for the magic of the sun to lift my gloom

I lay in waiting but no sun came

Only the harsh with light from above

A globe that gives off warmth, not love

Only this light would glare accusingly as I crawl from

Within my nightmare.

Now, still waiting for the sun’s gentle kiss, my heart is without comfort

I wonder if the magic of the sun is lost when the magic of childhood passes.
