Me and My Mate

The sun was taking a sneaky peek through the tiny crack between the blinds

I waited for a moment out of great respect and courtesy

I stretched my now creaky joints, welcoming the morning

I stretched before awaking my friend, my forever soul mate

Thinking of our now subdue races along the beach

Feeling the damp sand beneath our feet as we buzzed with excitement.

And then I let out a whimper,

A whisper, linking our kindred spirits

My excitement of the possibility of the day got the better of me

My self control letting go

l barked almost in unison with the alarm.

The process begun as they shook the sleep from their eyes

I sat, snuggled as we begun our morning exchange of pleasantries

My friend stretched once more, then our mutual exchange of joy and loyalty erupted.

Breakfast and treat for me and into our car and off to the beach

We will run , and skip and play catch with the waves

I will roll in the sand. Well, I will kinda roll.

My mind now floods with memories of when we were both so much younger, our casual stroll turned turbocharged and we would be covered in sand as it flew all round

Now we walk with caution but I know she too thinks of these times passed

Not with regret but with unimaginable fondness and joy.

We both feel this magic that we share, a magic deep within

This magic shall be for ever and no one can take it from us because it is protected by the strongest magic force of them all and this is the magic force of the love that builds between a dog and their partner.
